JEE Main 2017-Eligibility Criteria: JEE Main Exam is organised by CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) to provide admission in various undergraduate engineering courses in IITs, IIITs & NITs. The exam is basically conducted in two ways, first is Online (Computer Based Mode) and second one is Offline (Pen and Paper Based). The aspirants going to fill the application form must satisfy themselves with the eligibility norms before applying. In this article, we have given the details about officially announced JEE Main 2017 Eligibility Criteria.
JEE Main 2017 – Eligibility Norms
The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India has notified following two changes in the JEE pattern for 2017. Candidates appearing for the JEE Main 2017 exam must check the % criteria for taking admission to UG programmes from below description.
- There shall be no weightage for the 12th class marks in calculating the ranks in the JEE Main exam.
- For the candidates to qualify for admission in the IITs/NITs/IIITs are based on the JEE ranks. Candidates should have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th Class exam, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class exam conducted by the respective Boards. For SC/ST students the qualifying mark would be 65% In the 12th Class exam.
Necessity of “Aadhar Card”
All the Indian resident candidates must possess AADHAR CARD issued by UIDAI. At the time of filling application form of JEE Main 2017, the aspirants will have to enter their Aadhar card number, name, date of birth & gender which will be validated with the UIDAI’s data. In case, these particulars do not match, the candidate will not be able to fill the application form for JEE (Main) – 2017. Therefore, the students are advised to ensure that their Aadhar card has correct details of their name, date of birth & gender as per school records. If there is some mismatch in these details, the student should immediately get it corrected in Aadhar data or School records, as they me.
Candidates whose date of birth falls on or after 1st October, 1992 (General & OBC candidates) are eligible to apply. The birth date of the candidates belongs to SC, ST and PwD category should falls on or after 1st October 1987. Candidates note down that date of birth mentioned in the Secondary Education Board/University will be considered only for appearing in the exam.
Students who have passed 12th class or equivalent exam in 2015 or 2016 (not before 2015) are eligible to apply for this exam. If a Student appears in 12th or equivalent class in 2017 are also eligible for JEE Main 2017. If candidates has appeared in 12th or equivalent exam in 2014 but did not cleared in 2014, but passed in 2015 are not eligible to apply.
If a student qualify 12th exam in 2016 & appear for improvement in 2017 for one or few subjects, then top 20 percentile cut-off for 2016 will be considered. However, if a candidate writes all the subjects in 2017, then the best of the two performances will be considered. Students also note down that for the percentile system, total marks obtained in all the five subjects of marksheet are required for JEE Main and JEE Advanced.
